Job Description – EHS Manager

Job Duties:

SUMMARY: Directs and coordinates environmental, health and safety activities for multiple plants in ATW’s operations to include strategic direction, data trending/analysis, staff development, corporate policy development, training, and audits/inspections. Performs the following essential duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Lead strategy development for ATW as it pertains to incident/injury reduction, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to health, safety, or environmental affairs.

Develop and revise corporate policies as needed to support the objectives of the department.

Audit/inspect assigned facilities at the established frequency to ensure that all ATW operations are operating in accordance with industry best practices to ensure the safety of all ATW employees.

Monitor leading and lagging indicators to inform priority decisions and strategic direction. Provide information/updates to business leaders as appropriate to ensure that department objectives and activities are aligned with overall business objectives.

Provide appropriate training for management, supervision and all associates with respect to EHS policy, practices and procedures.

Administer Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Support plant EHS staff in the tracking of information for calculations and report filing.

Lead waste minimization efforts. Ensure safe and appropriate storage of waste and other chemicals in compliance with federal, state, and local standards.

Interface with outside agencies, inspectors and consultants.

Monitor safety action items, ensuring that the responsible party is taking corrective action and maintain records for follow up.

Establish and maintain safety programs and industrial hygiene duties such as, but not limited to, hearing conservation, blood borne pathogens, air sampling, asbestos, personal protective equipment and others as required by standards and regulations.

Investigate injuries and participate in root cause analyses, etc. as needed, and provide input for all safety or environmental investigations at assigned facilities.

Prepare and/or present monthly safety statistics to appropriate stakeholders including safety metrics, workers’ compensation cost summaries, and other related information.

Manage budget, incentive issues, and other business issues relating to the EHS function.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises plant-level and other EHS personnel as assigned to support corporate and plant-specific EHS policies and initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and eight to ten years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret graphs and sketches. Understand volumes, density and elementary engineering terms.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and plan actions accordingly.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Familiar with industrial health, hygiene, safety practices and environmental practices. Requires knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA regulations, (state and federal) and DOT Hazmat regulations. Requires knowledge and use of PC and related software skills as needed. Requires good interpersonal skills. Requires good communication skills with the ability to share information as necessary to inform and influence plant stakeholders.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. Required to perform the above essential functions in all areas of the facility, roof, mezzanine, etc. work in weather (cold/heat) consistent with the geographic location. Encounters the environment consistent with the facility and processes. Ability to successfully negotiate a broad range of site atmospheres and conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally may work near moving mechanical parts; in high places, and in outside weather conditions and may be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. May be in and around fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold/heat, electrical and pneumatic forces and vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies.
